Gamers Bid Adieu to PUBG Permanently!

PlayerUnknown’s Battleground aka PUBG is one of the most popular games in our country, and many youngsters were huge fans of this game. Like every great thing come to an end, the Indian Information and Technology Ministry banned PUBG Mobile and 117 other apps in September due to the rising tensions between India and China. Unlike other banned Chinese apps that became unavailable immediately, people who had downloaded PUBG were still able to play it without any disturbance. But that changed completely on October 30.

Google and Apple immediately pulled PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite apps from their app stores in India as the ban. It was believed that the company would shut down its Indian servers immediately like TikTok. But there was no drastic effect on PUBG Mobile as they easily maintained more than 90% of its monthly active users in India.

A few days back, Tencent Games has announced that it is finally closing down PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite servers in India from October 30 as PUBG Corporation has revoked their publishing rights in India. With this decision, they are planning to return the PUBG Mobile distribution rights for India back to Krafton. PUBG Corporation has taken this drastic step to address the Indian government’s security concerns and they are hoping to make a comeback in India soon.

A recent report states that PUBG Corporation is in talks with Indian telecommunication giants Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to strike up a partnership for the game in India. But the news is not officially confirmed by them. Considering the market size, we can expect the company to try out all possible solutions to catch up its place in the Indian market again.

Now that PUBG Mobile is gone from India, gamers are trying to find a good alternative. Games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Garena’s FreeFire have started to gain more followers in recent times and many think that these games may replace the position held by PUBG Mobile in the upcoming years.

What’s your take on the PUBG ban in India? Do you think that they will be able to make a comeback?
